After getting your first few clients, your next step should be to focus on how to promote your cleaning business to grow your business. Marketing or promoting is essential for business growth. Sure, word-of-mouth is a powerful tool, but it won’t help you scale your business to the next level.
The only problem is, promoting or marketing your cleaning business can be tricky.
On one hand, you have your so-called experts and marketing agencies telling you that you should invest in this or that marketing channel or strategy while someone else is telling you something completely different.
So, who do you listen to?
Well, you listen to someone who has been in your position and has “made it” to where you want to be. Not to brag, but my personal cleaning business, Maid to Glow, is in a position where many new business owners aspire to be in.
In this article, you’ll know the exact steps that Maid to Glow followed to be where it’s at today, along with some new strategies and tactics that you can add to your arsenal. So, let’s find out how to promote your cleaning business.
1. How to ACTUALLY Promote your Cleaning Business?
So, here’s the secret – List your business on Google Local services, Yelp and Thumbtack and create a solid Google My Business page. That’s it.
Yes, it’s that simple.
The key here is to fill out all the relevant information, add pictures and use the right keywords. If you do it right, you can rank on Google for keywords like “cleaning services” through these platforms.
Yelp and Thumbtack are great, but the best way to advertise a cleaning business is with Google Local services.
Don’t confuse it with Google Adwords. Google Local services only allow local vendors and service providers to promote their business. Though it does cost some money to list your business here, it’s totally worth it.
This is how Maid to Glow (my cleaning business based out of Atlanta, GA) gets 90% our jobs.
We have a step-by-step guide on setting up your Yelp, Thumbtack, and Google Local services profile. Make sure you check it out.
The following sections are additional ideas to add to your promotional strategy to get more clients for your cleaning business.
2. Create a Referral Program
Your existing customers are your best marketing tool.
It’s not that difficult to create a referral program where your existing clients are incentivized for bringing in new ones.
But what incentive can you provide to make your clients invest in it?
Simple, it could be anything from discounts, free add-ons to even free sessions. It depends on what you think is best and what you can offer.
3. Start Blogging
Blogging might not be the most efficient use of most business owners’ time. But for some, it could be beneficial, especially if you’re trying to build an audience and a brand.
Whether you write your own blogs or hire someone else to write them for you totally depends on your schedule and writing skills. In most cases, it’s best to outsource it.
But what should you talk about in your blogs?
The best way to go about it is to create cleaning-related content that your target audience will find helpful. Providing value is key in content marketing.
With enough traffic, you’ll be able to convert a decent number of clients from your blogs.
4. Build an Email List
This goes hand-in-hand with the last point. Instead of making a huge leap and directly selling your services to your reader, you can baby-step your way in that direction. Building an email list is quite an effective way of doing that.
There are a couple of ways to build an email list –
- Newsletter – Start a weekly or monthly newsletter where you share exclusive and somewhat more valuable content than your blogs.
- Gated Content – Create an eBook or a free resource for your business. Now, your readers must provide their email in order to get access to this content.
Once you have their emails, you can do a lot. You can send them new offers and discount codes every month or special occasions like Christmas and Halloween.
Also, since they are already somewhat bought in, they’ll be more likely to convert.
5. Video Marketing is Massively Underrated
Video content gets 38% more engagement than images.
Why?
Because video triggers more stimulus and emotions in our brain than a still image. So, if you wanna know how to promote your cleaning business, video marketing is one of the most underrated and least-talked about strategies in this industry.
What kind of video should you make?
It depends on what you’re trying to achieve. A YouTube video providing helpful content to build an audience would look different from a video made for advertising purposes.
Nonetheless, giving your audience a look into what you do and how you do what you do is a great way to build credibility and trust.
6. Social Media Marketing
Honestly, if you’re short on time and resources, stay away from social media. It won’t help a cleaning business much. But if you can afford to do it, why not? It won’t hurt your business either.
Also, if you want to build a brand around your cleaning business, social media can actually be quite effective. Otherwise, I would suggest you don’t bother with it.
Final Thoughts
I said it before, and I’ll say it again if you’re asking how to promote your cleaning business, your best bet would be Yelp, Thumbtack and Google Local services. These platforms alone will generate 90% of your bookings. The other stuff mentioned in this article is to optimize your chances.
